Pre-purchase Condition Survey by Qualified Surveyors

Why a Pre-Purchase Condition Survey Is Essential After Your Offer Is Accepted

Once your offer on a yacht has been accepted and the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been drafted and signed by both you and the Seller, the next crucial step is to appoint a qualified marine surveyor.

A thorough Pre-Purchase Condition Survey will provide you with a detailed report outlining the yacht’s condition, any necessary repairs, and expert recommendations.

Key Benefits of a Pre-Purchase Survey

  • Accurate Insight into the Yacht’s Condition: Understand the true state of the vessel before finalizing the purchase, preventing unexpected costs or issues.
  • Insurance Documentation: Present the survey report to your insurance provider to secure appropriate coverage and potentially lower premiums.
  • Future Resale Advantage: A professional survey report adds credibility when you decide to sell your yacht, increasing buyer confidence.

Survey Process

Our survey process is divided into three steps:

  • Out-of-water Survey: Inspection of the hull bottom and topsides, moisture absorption measurement (or ultrasonic thickness measurement on steel/aluminum hull), thermography inspection with infrared camera and hammer testing, propellers, propeller shafts, brackets, cutlass bearings, thrusters, stabilizers, zinc anodes, trim tabs, through hull fittings, and other underwater equipment.
  • In-water Survey: Survey of the yacht in the marina, including inspection of decks, deck equipment, accommodation areas, interior, internal structural components, main engines, generators, auxiliary machinery condition, navigational equipment, electrical and piping systems, safety equipment, and certificates.
  • Sea Trials: Inspection of main engine performance, operation at various RPM, vibration and noise levels, steering system operation, auxiliary systems, and overall navigational performance.

Upon completion of the surveys, our detailed official survey report will be issued, including a description of the yacht, condition noted, survey findings and recommendations, as well as relevant photos.
